Gestating Mindfulness

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they?

Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

And why take you thought for clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Therefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, How shall we be clothed?

… for your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.

Matt 6:26-33

With all of my pregnancies I developed a plan of how I was going to consciously honour this special time for the growing being nestled safely in my womb, both in preparation for the great transition that lay ahead for both of us (birth and early parenting) and for the sake of respect. You may like to do this as well. We know from experience that ‘energy flows where attention goes’. Many successful people in whatever their specific mission is in life have found tremendous reward in writing down their goals. Writing down our goals helps us to keep our focus. Throughout this book, particularly in preparation for birth, I invite you to write affirmations for yourself, or utilise the scriptures given throughout this book. I used to write my affirmations and key inspirational scriptures on the wall next to my bed so I could read them as I woke up and went to bed each day. Positive, ‘in the moment’ statements that enable you to focus on your desired outcome are very helpful, particularly during pregnancy. Below is an example of one of my pregnancy plans. It is a rough guideline of objectives that I endeavoured to achieve each day.

  • Pray continuously…anointing once when I first discover I’m pregnant, and once in the weeks for the birth.
  • High-all raw plant food based diet – specific focus on abundant fruits and greens, coconuts, vegetable juices.
  • Bellydance 3x/week alternate with yoga every other day, Walking every day. Lots of swimming in summer.
  • Monthly Holistic Pulsing sessions to aid relaxation, release accumulated stress, heal emotional blockages that I don’t want to pass on to the babe.
  • Listen to specific birth relaxation CD’s in the final weeks of pregnancy.

What are your desires for this pregnancy?
